My Jaunty Jackalope – Google Theory
Jaunty Jackalope Announcement
This morning I arrived at work, opened DIGG.com and read that Ubuntu's 9.04 version will be known as Jaunty Jackalope, the first thing that came to mind was how do they come up with these names??? It's like naming a child Kaleb, why would you do such a horrible thing?
Reaction to Jaunty Jackalope
The next thing I thought was, aammmm….. This is probably a hot subject I must check what Big Brother (Google) has to say about this.
Big-Brothered it got 8,000 something results, this was at 10:15, by 12:30 they were around 12,000 results, by 20:30, 21,000 +.
Many thoughts went throw my empty mind the first was, I guess the Ubuntu people know what they are doing with the funny names, it is very easy to track such a search phrase (or a boy named Kaleb), so I apologize for thinking bad things about you, and I take my hat down, may you live to see your enemies in the ground, and beware of the dark side.
Second thought was besides Google Insight, which I'm not really sure what it means, does this have any effect on search results? I'm sure it does.
Do the search engines measure the increase of phrases, not searches, phrases? I would like to get a feed of the fastest growing phrases, or better a feed of the fastest growing phrases with and how many people search them every day (hour, minute…).
This is not related, but according to Google Trends and Insight there is no such thing as "Jaunty Jackalope", I guess this will change by next week.
Why Did Google stick its Thumb Into Jaunty Jackalope?
Now to the point that I really didn't get, why is Ubuntu having it's convention in Google's headquarters?
Seems like Google decided to take the air out of the Microsoft balloon, but how do you empty a lake that keeps filling itself?
Simple you take the water out quicker then it comes in, you might even cause a flood and drawn some of your other competitors (Apple) and a few innocent bystanders (1984 - a thought i had) on the way.
With Google Chrome (I think it will first hurt Firefox and only later IE), and now levering Ubuntu in its favor Big Brother is slowly emptying Bill's pond, it won't be easy and Bill won't go with out a fight, but BB has the knowledge, skill, determination and most certainly the money.
I wonder what the bookies think of this fight?
Please let me know what you think of my 3 cents?
